Shakespeare Out Loud

The 12 plays of the Shakespeare Out Loud series have been vacuumed of archaic language and have been formatted as the actor thinks.  They were created by an experienced Shakespearean actor and educator. They have been use by hundreds of thousand Canadian English students, mainly in Ontario. They have had scores of productions, and are ideal for developing the oral communication skills of young people.

We love your scripts - they are a great success at our middle school productions every year! Very accessible to our actors and our Kindergarten-through-adult audiences alike. Bravo!

Rodger’s scripts are fabulous. The students easily follow the plotline and get the humor, without having to stop and have it explained. Having the lines presented as thoughts, allows the students to read aloud without causing it to be choppy. They understand and play.

Your materials are a huge hit! My class is engaged in the play in ways that they aren't even aware of ... the connections they are making are awesome and the fact that they remain on task for the entire period is amazing! Your director's notes in the teacher's guide make the work come alive and generate some really interesting conversation and ideas.

When my students use Shakespeare Out Loud, they truly "get into it." They develop a true appreciation for the words, the language and the story. It envelops them. Students who had never acted or wanted to act are now "up there." They really have begun to listen to the words, to rehearse their parts and put forward a depth to what they are saying. I cannot believe how this series entices them into the plays and truly motivates them.

I wish I was back in the classroom. I would have been a far better teacher.

I feel strongly that the readable Shakespeare Out Loud scripts are a fine way to explore literacy with young people.
